I used to love studying poetry in college. There’s something magical about how everyone’s interpretation is different, with no right or wrong answers. No one’s trying to win; it’s about going deeper into meaning. But I can’t remember the last time I truly debated a poem—or even read one.
That changed when I was asked to speak to the SagE women’s group at TEKsystems, whose mission is all about “dropping keys” for other women—helping unlock potential and opportunities.
As I prepared for my talk, Caroline Sullivan, one of the leaders, shared the poem by Hafiz that inspires their group:
This poem struck a chord because it mirrors what I believe about the work we do at Revel Coach. So often, the barriers we face—the frustrations, the negativity—come from our own limiting thoughts. We end up building cages, focusing on what we can’t do instead of dropping the keys that can unlock new paths forward.
For me, this poem is a reminder to offer tools, support, and opportunities—dropping keys—to help others break free from the limitations they or society places on them. It’s about asking: “How can we be the ones who drop keys for each other instead of confining ourselves or others?”
